Issue You would like an links in an email to be tracked, but need to eliminate the tracking URL parameter on the tracked links. Solution In the Email Editor, you can uncheck "include mkt_tok" in the Edit Link box. Adding a class "mktNoTok" to any Anchor Tag will allow you to keep the Link Tracking, but disable the Tracking Token Parameter from the URL. You may also edit the Head of the email HTML to make large sections with this class.

Issue Issue Description You have a field (e.g. Most Recent Website Visit) that you want to see previous values for without needing to look through the activity log.     Solution Issue Resolution This can be done using a few custom fields, and one trigger campaign. Make duplicates of the field you want to see most recent values of (e.g. Most Recent Website Visit 1, Most Recent Website Visit 2, etc.) while still keeping the original field. Use the original field as you previously have, but set a trigger campaign to look for data value changes to that field. In the flow of that campaign, set the logic like so:   Change Data Value: Most Recent Website Visit 3 new value: {{lead. Most Recent Website Visit 2}} Change Data Value: Most Recent Website Visit 2 new value: {{lead. Most Recent Website Visit 1}} Change Data Value: Most Recent Website Visit 1 new value: {{lead. Most Recent Website Visit}} Using the above flow, the most recent values for the field can be checked without looking into an activity log. This can be useful in a number of ways, for example this information could be included in an email or alert. Another example, if the primary field (in the above example it is Most Recent Website Visit) is updated to a value that it should not have, then you can setup another campaign to update Most Recent Website Visit using the value in Most Recent Website visit 2 to restore the previous value.   Warning Please Note: The above process can be somewhat resource intensive (particularly if a large number of records trigger the campaign at close to the same time), this should be done with as few fields as possible to assure good instance health overall.

Issue Your scheduled send with 'Send Recipient Time Zone' sent early.     Solution When 'Send in Recipient Time Zone' is enabled for a send, our system will start the construction of the emails for the program based on the earliest send time. The remaining emails will be held by our server until the designated time for the intended recipient based on their time zone. This will cause the Send Email activity to be recorded according the time that the email was handed off to the Mail Assembly Server for construction. For the emails that are being held until the appropriate time for the send, our reporting will mark them as Pending until they are either delivered or bounced by the recipient email server.

Issue You want to import a program from another instance, but the program's channel does not exist in the destination instance. Solution When you import a program, if the channel does not exist in the destination instance, it will be created by the import process.   For example: Instance/Subscription A has a channel called Custom Channel 101, but Instance/Subscription B does not have that channel. When you import a program from Instance A to B with that custom channel, the channel Custom Channel 101 will be created in Instance B.

Issue In a Smart Campaign, you have a flow step with multiple Choice options in it.  When the lead goes through the flow, only one choice option is applied. Solution This is the correct behavior for a flow step with Choices.  When the lead goes through the flow step with multiple choices, only the first applicable choice will be used. The rest of the choices will be skipped, even if the lead qualifies for them.  If you want multiple choices applied to the same lead, you will need to separate the choices into different flow steps.

Included in this Article: Overview Checking for Segment Matches Reasons for not Matching Typos Non-exact Matches   Overview   Using segments, you can target specific organizations by using the Named Accounts attribute in the segment editor. With this attribute, you can select all organizations in a Named Account List or by manually selecting organizations.     However sometimes we see one of those organizations visiting the website but it doesn't match the segment, even though it is included in the segment list.     Checking for Segment Matches   If a list was created manually, it's possible the organization wasn't included in the segment list in the first place. To check:        Go to the Organizations tab          Use the search bar to search the name of the organization in question   If the organization was entered in the list correctly, it will be found through the search. If it does not appear in the search results, there are two issues that are likely to have arisen.     Reasons for not Matching   Typos Luckily, typos are easy to fix. Simply edit the organization's name to match the spelling you wanted it to take on.   Non-exact Matches Even if an organization is spelled correctly, it will still not match the organization listed in the segment if the names aren't exactly the same. It is very common for companies to have different names for their organization.       To fix these non-exact matches, you'll have to be clever about how you name your organizations. In RTP, an important character to know is the wildcard character, represented by an asterisk (*). A wildcard character will match with any character or sequence of characters   For example, the string "Salesforce*" will match all three of the above spellings ("Salesforce.com", "Salesforce.com Inc.", and "Salesforce Ltd") because they all begin with "Salesforce". For more examples on how to use wildcard characters, follow this document: RTP Glossary - Marketo Docs   However, you must be careful using wildcards characters, because you could potentially match organizations that you didn't intend to match. For instance, the string "Salesforce*" will not only match the three examples above, but also a company named "Salesforce Finance", a completely different company.

Issue An email you previously had in Marketo under a program in Marketing Activities no longer exists and you believe it was deleted. However, you do not see that deletion in the Audit trail. Solution If an email was deleted directly, by un-approving the asset and then deleting it from the program, this activity will be seen in the Audit Trail. However, if the program containing the email is deleted, the individual email's deletion will not show in the audit trail. Only the program deletion will be displayed.

Issue Users may notice that unsubscribed or blacklisted leads still appear within the Audience section of an Email Program.  Environment This issue is relevant to all Marketo users who are managing Email Programs and observing the Audience list.  Solution Despite being blocked or blacklisted, leads will continue to be displayed in the 'People' list of a Program or Campaign's audience, as they still fit the criteria for the Smart List of that particular asset. The Audience list includes all individuals who meet this criteria.  The blocked leads do get recognized and listed under the Blocked list of that specific program. However, this Blocked list is considered a part of the broader Audience list.  If you prefer these leads to not show up in your Audience, you can modify your Smart List filters. For example, apply the "Unsubscribed is False" filter. Root Cause This situation arises because the Audience count encompasses all leads that qualify for the Smart List, including those that are blocked or blacklisted. The system recognizes and lists these blocked leads separately, but they remain as a subset of the overall Audience.

Included in this Article: Overview Setup Issues No RTP Tag or GA Integration Differing Filters Differences between RTP and GA Web Bots Visit Duration Sampling Bounce Rates   Overview   Occasionally you may find differences in comparing RTP analytics and Google Analytics (GA). Some discrepancies may be caused by setup issues with either the RTP or GA platform. However, many small discrepancies are simply due to differences in how RTP and GA handle data, and are unavoidable. Differences of both kinds are highlighted below.     Setup Issues   No RTP Tag or GA Integration You will need to have the RTP tag turned on in RTP and installed onto any page you wish to track in RTP. You will also need to have GA integrated and turned on in your RTP settings.   To learn how to do so, follow these two articles: Deploy the RTP JavaScript - Marketo Docs - Product Docs Integrate RTP with Google Analytics - Marketo Docs - Product Docs   Excluded IPs If you have any IPs being excluded by RTP, this data will not be displayed in RTP or used in reporting, but may still be present in GA. To check this:        Go to your Account Settings        Scroll down and check if you have any IPs being excluded in the Exclude IPs field       Differing Filters Some filters exist in GA that don't exist in RTP which can potentially exclude users from their data being reported. If a filter like this is employed in GA, then certain users will be excluded from being tracked in GA, whereas they will be tracked in RTP.   Log in to your GA account and navigate to Admin > Filters to check if any exclusive filters have been applied       Differences between RTP and GA   Web Bots RTP and GA both attempt to detect activity from bots, which are computer programs written to run tasks over the Internet. However, RTP and GA treat the identification of bots or "fake" users differently. For example, when RTP identifies a bot, it may not even send the data on to GA. You can't change that bot activity might be recorded differently, but it should also not affect your data too significantly.   Visit Duration A visit from one user automatically ends after a certain period of time in both RTP and GA, but those settings may be different between the two. To learn more, or learn how to change these settings, see How Visit Duration is calculated in RTP.   Sampling GA often will actually use a sample of your web traffic data, rather than the entire set of data, to report trends. This will produce very similar results, but most likely will not be 100% accurate. RTP does not make use of sampling, and instead provides summaries using all of the present data.   To learn more about sampling in GA, read this article: How sampling works - Analytics Help   Bounce Rates Generally, about 50-85% of the traffic to your website actually gets recorded in RTP and GA. This is because both the RTP tag and the GA tag will need to load on the page before they can send data back to RTP or GA. If visitors leave your page before the RTP or GA tags load, then data will not be sent back to the RTP or GA analytics platforms. We recommend that the RTP and GA tags be placed higher in the web page's code in order to give them more time to load, leaving a smaller window for the visitor to leave without data being sent back.

Issue Description Customers based in our Sydney datacenter experienced a service issue which caused an intermittent disruption in email sends beginning 10:30 AM AEST local time on November 12, 2018. This issue was resolved at 1:00 pm AEST and all emails are now sending normally. No customers outside of the Sydney datacenter were impacted. During the impacted time frame, some email sends were lost and will not be delivered. The issue occurred intermittently during the affected time, so some emails were sent successfully, while others were not. This documentation provides details on how to identify the impacted lead records. Identifying Affected Leads Symptoms All lead records that were sent emails during the impacted time will show an "Email Sent" activity (as per normal behavior) Leads that were not impacted and successfully had emails sent will show the corresponding "Email Delivered" or "Email Bounced" activities (as per normal behavior) However, the impacted leads that emails did not send to will NOT have any "Email Delivered" or "Email Bounced" activity. They will show the "Email Sent" activity, but there will not be any corresponding activity to indicate what the result was - Delivered or Bounced. The emails that failed to send will not be retried. Leads impacted by this service issue will not receive the email unless customers choose to re-send it through another Campaign or Email Program send. Using Smart Lists to Identify Leads To identify affected leads create the following Smart List: Filter logic: ALL filters Flow Step #1: Was Sent Email Email is any Date of Activity is ‘2018-11-12’ Flow Step #2: Not Was Delivered Email Email is any Date of Activity is ‘2018-11-12’ Flow Step #3: Not Email Bounced Email is any Date of Activity is ‘2018-11-12’ Flow Step #4: Not Email Bounced Soft Email is any Date of Activity is ‘2018-11-12’ Once complete, your Smart List will look like this: The lead records returned by this Smart List will be the impacted records that did not have emails sent during the affected time frame. *NOTE: In a limited number of circumstances, there is a possibility that a very small number of leads did not have the "Email Sent" activity logged. This will be an uncommon occurrence, if it happens at all. Who This Solution Applies To Customers in the Sydney Datacenter. No customers whose Marketo instances are located in other datacenters are impacted in any way. Where to get additional help If you would like any additional help please contact Marketo Support.

Follow this article if you are having issues with your RTP tag or want to verify that it is working correctly.   Check Content Patterns        In Account Settings, go to the Content tab     Check that the URLs entered in the Create Content Patterns section match the URLs you wish to use with Content Discovery       Verify Content Discovery is Working   Once you've made changes the Content Discovery setup, visit any page in the Create Content Patterns section. If the Content Discovery is working, visiting the page should increase the click count and capture you as the visitor. To check if this worked the way that it should, after visiting the website you should:        Go to the Visitors page under Analytics     Use the search tool in the visitor database and search for the URL that you visited. It should return a list of visits to that site with your most recent visit at the top. If the Content Discovery is working correctly, the visitor database should have tracked your visit and it should appear among the list.     Check to make sure the time stamp matches the time you visited the page. The time stamp can be found under the Visitor Information section after clicking on the visitor.

It's one of the most common calls we get in Support - "This lead should have qualified for this campaign, but it didn't. Why?"  Here's how we go about answering this question, and you can do it too.   Did the lead actually qualify? Sometimes the leads do qualify for the campaign but don't go through the flow.  One quick way to check this is to look at the campaign membership.  If the lead qualified, it will become a member of the Smart Campaign, even if it doesn't go through the flow. Has the lead gone through the flow before?  We can check this in the campaign results. If it has, we need to see if the campaign allows the leads to go through the flow more than once. If the campaign is set up to allow leads to run through the flow multiple times, then we need to proceed with troubleshooting. But if it is not, we have our answer - the lead didn't go through the campaign because it had done so previously and couldn't go through again.   Did the trigger have constraints? If it didn't, we move along, but if it did, we need to check and see if the lead met the requirements of the constraints at the time the lead hit the trigger. This is very important.  If, for instance, there was a constraint that required a value in a field, and that field was not populated before the trigger went off, then the lead wouldn't qualify.  The timestamps in the activity log for the trigger activity and the value change might be the same, but if the value change for the field happened even a fraction of a second after the trigger event, it's still too late. The lead will not qualify.  Looking at the lead now, it looks like it qualifies, but at the moment the campaign was triggered, the lead had different information, so check to see when the required values were written to the lead.   Did the Smart List have filters in addition to the trigger? Just like the constraints, we need to confirm the lead satisfied the filter requirements before the trigger fired.  This can get complicated if one of your filter requirements is "Member of Smart List" because you are going to have to go into the referenced Smart List and confirm the lead met all those requirements, and if that Smart List also contains a "Member of Smart List" filter, then will have to check that one as well and, well, you will see why we in Support recommend against nesting Smart Lists.   Has the campaign been changed since the lead hit the trigger? We tend to assume that the campaign we are looking at today is the same as it was when the lead hit the trigger, but this is often not the case.  Check through the Audit Trail to see if there have been any changes.  Maybe a constraint was added, removed, or changed.  Maybe the filter logic was changed from AND to OR.  Maybe it used to only let leads go through the flow once.  If the campaign was changed, you will need to go through the troubleshooting steps above all over again, checking against what the campaign used to have, rather than what it has now.  If you have nested Smart Lists, it may be that the campaign didn't change at all, but a filter criteria in a the secondary Smart List did.  This is another reason why nested Smart Lists should be avoided if possible.   If you go through these steps and still can't figure it out, open a case in Support and include the results of the troubleshooting above so we can look into it further.

Issue Opening MSI Best Bets is showing very old Last Interesting Moments. Solution MSI Best Bets is designed to show the "hottest" leads, so this means that even though these activities of the last interesting moment happened so long ago, their combination stars and flames makes them a hot lead to focus on. We recommend that you search for these records within the database and inspect the Lead Activity Log. You just might find a sync error that has been occurring for some time. If a record cannot sync, it cannot update so therefore the Stars and Flames will be stuck at a high engagement. If you resolve the sync error, the next time the sync occurs the MSI Stars and Flames will be readdressed, and more updated records will be shown.

Issue You put a variable inside an email token and when the email was sent, the variable rendered as text rather than as a link: Example: ${queryParameters} Should expand to: {{my.CertainURLHREF}}?utm_source=${utm-source}&utm_content=${utm-content}&utm_medium=${utm-medium}&utm_campaign=${utm-campaign}&ajs_uid={{lead.Email Address}}&ajs_event=Email%20Clicked With the various tokens populated Instead it expands to this: app.fakewebsite.biz/profile/55555555?utm_source=$%7Butm-source%7D&utm_content=$%7Butm-content%7D&utm_medium=$%7Butm-medium%7D&utm_campaign=$%7Butm-campaign%7D&ajs_uid=adam.tow+test@voxmedia.com&ajs_event=Email%20Clicked   Solution Essentially, email template variables are used at design time to make building out an email easier. Tokens are used at send time to make data variable per program without having to edit the asset or lead. Putting email template variables inside tokens won't work for this reason. It is just how the current design works and you will not be able to put email template tokens inside my tokens or lead tokens. Unwrapping variables before you put them within the token will allow them to function properly. This removes the simplicity of the variable, but retains the functionality.

Included in this article   Overview Troubleshooting Steps Verify Global Settings Check for CRE Excluded URLs Verify Content Being Recommended Make Sure the Page Has the RTP Tag Running Clear Your Browser's Cache and Cookies Overview The Content Recommendation Engine allows content assets to be promoted to visitors on your website. But what happens if it stops working? This doc will show you the common things to check and troubleshooting steps to try to get it working again.     Troubleshooting Steps   Verify Global Settings The CRE can be switched on or off for your entire RTP instance whenever you want. It's possible that another user may have switched it off and not turned it back on again (it happens more often than you'd think). To enable or disable the CRE globally, go to the Account Settings page and look for the Recommendation toggle switch. Full directions can be found here.     Check for CRE Excluded URLs You have the ability to prevent the CRE from being added onto specific pages. If you have URLs excluded from allowing the CRE to be displayed, that would cause the CRE to no longer display on those pages. Many times the exclusion can be set and then forgotten, or set by a different user on accident. Directions on how to set up the exclusions can be found here Web Personalization (RTP) - How To Exclude or Include the CRE on Specific Pages     Verify Content Being Recommended Content assets can be switched on or off to designate whether that content should be included in the CRE recommendations or not. Each piece of content can be enabled or disabled individually, but if you don't have any enabled at all, there's nothing for the CRE bar to recommend, so it won't even show up on the page.     To check whether content is enabled, from the menu, select Recommendations     In the Content Recommendations page, look for the Recommendations column. This will list out all pieces of content you have in RTP and display whether they are enabled or disabled. The Red box means it is turned Off and is disabled. The Green circle means it is turned On and is enabled.     Make Sure the Page Has the RTP Tag Running The CRE is a feature of RTP, so if the RTP script tag isn't running on the page, there's no way for the CRE to work. The RTP tag can be implemented in many different ways besides by having it directly in the page's HTML, like having it in a tag manager. These other implementation methods can cause problems so be sure to follow the directions in the documentation here when setting it up: RTP Tag Implementation - Marketo Docs - Product Docs   If you know for sure that the RTP tag is on the page, here's documentation on how to troubleshoot what could be keeping it from loading properly: Troubleshooting Web Personalization (RTP) - RTP Tag   Clear Your Browser's Cache and Cookies Web browsers store cached data from websites, which can frequently cause old versions of webpages to continue showing even if a different newer version of the page should be loading instead. Try clearing both cache and cookies in your browser and then testing the page again. You can also test using a different browser.

Included in this Article:   Overview The Problem The Solution Rich Media Content Recommendation Engine Info     Overview The Content Recommendation Engine (CRE) is a powerful tool that will allow you to promote online content to your visitors based on their behaviors and the performance of the content itself. When the RTP tag is used on multiple domains, it will pull in all available content regardless of which domain it's on. For some marketers, this can be a problem.     The Problem With the standard Content Recommendation Engine, this is an expected behavior. You can't limit the the recommendations from one domain to stop showing up on other domains. The content being recommended will show across all domains where the RTP tag is in use.     The Solution There are two types of Content Recommendation Engine. The Rich Media Content Recommendation Engine will let you get around this problem.   The standard Content Recommendation Engine gives the bar along the bottom of the web page with the content recommendations in it. This recommendation engine is expected to have content extending across all domains where your RTP tag is in use.   The Rich Media Content Recommendation Engine will allow you to target which content you want to have in which places by categorizing the content and specifying which categories each web page should pull from.     Rich Media Content Recommendation Engine Info For directions on how to utilize the Rich Media Content Recommendation Engine, please see: Enabling the Rich Media Recommendation Engine - Marketo Docs - Product Docs
